FAQ
Here are answers to some frequently asked questions about ocean freight:
1. Transit Time: Ocean freight generally takes longer than air freight. The specific time depends on the destination and route of the goods. Generally, a voyage from Asia to Europe takes 3 to 4 weeks. For special requirements, faster routes can be chosen, but the cost is higher.
2. Shipping Costs: The calculation of ocean freight costs involves multiple factors, including the weight, dimensions, and destination of the goods. The greater of the volumetric weight and the actual weight is usually used as the chargeable weight. Port fees and insurance costs also need to be considered.
3. Packing Method: Ocean freight is usually transported in containers. Care should be taken when packing the goods to ensure proper packaging and marking to prevent damage during transportation. Also, ensure that the loaded goods do not exceed the maximum weight limit of the container.
4. Cargo Insurance: Ocean freight may suffer accidental loss during transportation; therefore, it is recommended to purchase cargo insurance to protect the value of the goods from loss.
LCL is suitable for small batches of goods, where multiple shippers share one container; FCL, on the other hand, is leased by a single shipper, which is more expensive but more secure.
